Stella Marjorie King MacDonald's Obituary
With profound sadness, the family of Stella Marjorie King MacDonald announces her passing of February 8, 2019 after a short, brave battle with leukemia. Stella will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband of 49 years, Scott, and her children, Elizabeth (Charles) and Laird (Heather). Stella will be forever remembered by her three precious grandchildren, the lights of her life, Bryce, Campbell, and Finley; by her brother Roger (Susan); and her nieces Emma (and daughter Teagan), Sarah (Ian); and countless friends. An immigrant from England, Stella raised her family in the wooded beauty of Harwood and enjoyed a meaningful career in the Anne Arundel County Public School system for over 30 years while also directing the financials for our family’s small framing and art business in Annapolis. Driven by a lifelong passion for learning, she earned an Associate Degree from Anne Arundel Community College. She enjoyed reading, drawing, writing, practicing yoga, quilting, sewing, making photo albums, and playing with her grandchildren. She relished a good cup of tea. She loved music, fashion, gardening, travelling, watching British shows on PBS, doing logic puzzles and playing games. She was a caring wife, a forgiving mother, and a smiling, adoring Nanna. A private family Graveside Service in her honor will be held on February 18, 2019 at Bestgate Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life for Stella, our Bright Star, will be held on May 4, 2019. Memorial donations in memory of Stella may be made to the American Red Cross, https://www.redcrossblood.org/, the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation, https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/aacplfoundation, (via Finley's neighborhood library in Severna Park), or Friends of School Within School in Washington, D.C., https://fsws.ejoine.org/swsauction, (Bryce and Campbell’s elementary school).
Stella Marjorie King arrived in the United States from England in 1967 as a young, bright-eyed 21-year old. She made the decision and the journey to travel across the ocean alone to work and explore life in Boston, Massachusetts. She knew no one in this country. But over the next five decades, she established roots here that will continue to grow and flourish. She is our matriarch and we are her progeny - a devoted husband, two loving children, three adoring grandchildren - all now woven into the tapestry of the American story. My mom is my hero, my life, and my inspiration. I can’t imagine life without her, but I think about that confident young woman, stepping off the Queen Elizabeth 2, in her miniskirt and long, light brown hair, and I smile.
