Roger Dale Evans Sr., a cherished resident of Severn, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on July 26, 1947, in
Baltimore, Maryland, Roger was a man of profound dedication, unwavering loyalty, and boundless humor, attributes that left a lasting impression on everyone
fortunate enough to know him.
A proud veteran, Roger served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1968. His bravery and dedication were recognized through numerous honors, including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Presidential Unit Citation with ribbon bar and bronze star. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Roger's service to his country was a testament to his courage and commitment.
Following his military service, Roger continued to protect and serve his community as a member of the Maryland Special Police at the Social Security Administration and later as a Correctional Officer and State Property Officer at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, Maryland. His skills and expertise were further shared as a qualified handgun instructor and part-time private investigator, roles that demonstrated his dedication to safety and justice.
Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Roger had a knack for making others laugh, often being the source of joy and amusement. Friends and family fondly
recall that he could easily have penned a book of jokes, a testament to his infectious spirit.
He is survived by his beloved son, Roger Dale Evans Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Phung T. Hua. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Linda Evans, Anthony Evans, and Phuong T. Hua, as well as his sister, Pat Clark, niece, Angela J. Giusto, and numerous great-nieces and nephews, including Caprice Vito, Kera Reed, Matt Juratovac, Nick Vito, Zack Chaney, and Luke Chaney.
Roger was predeceased by his brother, Roy Evans, sister, Jacqueline Juratovac, niece, Diana Reed, father, Walter A. Evans, and mother, Helen Eser.
A funeral service to honor Roger's remarkable life will be held at Lasting Tributes Funeral Care in Annapolis, Maryland, on September 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Those who knew Roger will remember a man who served his country with honor, protected his community with dedication, and loved his family with all his heart.
