I am still looking for the right words to say how I feel about Mom. She has become my hero –
She has always been there for me, for us. She has been the caretaker of Nana, Dad, Dale. She has been the caretaker of our family – keeping in touch with children, grand children, great grand kids and great greats….. She has been the caretaker of our family history…….
Mom shared our family history – The Falcons, The Cunhas, the Mottas, the Petersons, the Heikkinens, the Kangasniemis, the Davidsons, the Waltons…… I was inspired to get on Ancestory.com to continue her legacy of sharing our history.
Even in her 92nd year, she showed how true her friendship is by keeping in touch with her friends from high school. She moved from Redding, CA after Dad passed away and quickly made new friends in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She continued to exercise by swimming when she was able and go to line dancing classes. She was active on Facebook and found it a great way to keep in touch with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Mom would regale us with stories of how she and Dad met, how she won his heart , and how they dated and thought they got married in Reno. About living in a company town and working for the same company. How her wedding ring is from the company town catalog.
When packing moms things for her move to Maryland, she had a story for every item we placed in the box. Her life was consolidated into 18 boxes of treasures and memories. Her life was so much more – and even in her passing she continues to give.
Mom, I wasn’t ready to let you go. I selfishly wanted to hear more and learn more from you– I still need you. But I know you are probably teaching people how to line dance in heaven , how to giggle like you and Merilyn are probably doing right now and I can see you and Dale playing the piano and Dale and Dad fishing.
Thank you mom for giving me some time with you. I am so glad you were able to enjoy the Chesapeake – your face is a picture of joy and I am glad you had that before moving on.
It’s not good-bye I know that – I will see you again. In the meanwhile enjoy your new journey – tell Jesus thank you – tell everyone I love them.
