Nancy Lyn Slepicka's Obituary
Nancy Lyn (Lauber) Slepicka, 73, passed away July 6, 2023. She lived with her husband Lon in Annapolis, MD since 1984 raising two daughters there.
Nancy graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1979 and went into practice with Fossett and Brugger, P.A., a land use law firm in Greenbelt Maryland. That firm joined O’Malley, Miles, Nylen & Gilmore, P.A. and Nancy represented clients in Maryland including managing the firm’s office in Charles County.
Nancy was a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Attorney Grievance Commission for many years. She was active in the Maryland Woman’s Bar Association.
Nancy was born in Nebraska and went to high school in Geneva. She excelled in music, traveling in the summer of her junior year with a national touring choir.
After graduation in 1967, Nancy attended the University of Nebraska and studied music education, piano, and voice.
Lon and Nancy were married in June 1970 and in the summer of 1971 traveled throughout Europe to then return to Nebraska as Nancy began working for Seward County teaching music at five elementary schools.
In the summer of 1974, while traveling, Lon joined a newspaper group in Maryland and they moved to the area. Nancy worked for Nebraska third district Congress woman Virginia Smith and then for Maryland Senator J. Glenn Beall. Nancy then began law school at night. A group of friends from Capitol Hill, after work, drove to Baltimore for a four years.
Nancy and Lon joined Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis where Nancy sang in the choir, played the organ as needed and accompanied the children’s choir for many years. She served on the Staff Parish Committee and other committees for the church.
Nancy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lighthouse Shelter in Anne Arundel County and a strong promoter of their programs.
Nancy is survived by her husband Lon, daughters Ashley and husband Chris DiIonno and two grandsons Paul and Luca, Mallory and husband Bill Kovach, sisters Karyn and Gina, brother Martin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary UMC, 301 Rowe Blvd. Annapolis, MD 21401 on July 23 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of The Lighthouse, 10 Hudson Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.
The family will return Nancy to her home in Nebraska.
