Michael Randolph Francis Sr. 's Obituary
Michael R Francis Sr. (A.K.A “RAT”) of Crownsville, Maryland was born on March 24th 1951 in Dayton Ohio as the biological son of Evelyn Harvey-King and Bill Moore. He became the adoptive son of Alfred and Bessy Francis and was raised in West Virginia. Michael departed from our physical lives on January 14th 2015.
Michael was a graduate of Gary District High, and in his younger years he worked in the Coal Mines. He also rarely missed a high school sporting event in Gary and the surrounding areas in Southern West Virginia. While in Dayton Ohio Michael was known to be the man who orchestrated many Cabaret’s throughout the city, and was always the life of the party no matter the location due to his unique personality, and whenever he entered a room his presence was immediately felt. Michael would not allow you to not have a good time, and many times the family reported making him leave so they could get some sleep to recover from the aches and pains from the constant laughter.
Since moving to Maryland, Michael was affectionately known as “Pop Francis” to all. His was also known and respected as the straight shooter who never left anything unsaid, or any story untold. Whether around the house or performing for the family in the Harvey yard, he could always be heard more times than not singing a song from the O’Jays, The Stylistics, and the Dramatics.
Michael was known for his love for his grandchildren of which he cared for until becoming ill, in addition to all things sports. Michael frequently spoke of how fortunate he was to have a grandson play for his favorite NFL team (Miami Dolphins), and when he was not sporting one of his signature Kangol’s, he was wearing the hat of his favorite baseball team the New York Yankee’s.
Michael leaves behind to cherish his memories; His Mother Evelyn Harvey –King; 2 Brothers, Donald Harvey, & Darrell Carson; 1- Sister, Victoria Harvey; 3 children, Michael, Keith, & Angela Francis; (The mother of his 3 children, Shirley Francis; 8 grandchildren , A.J. Francis, Kameron Brown, Sean Martin, Montre’ Brown, Gabrielle Francis, Marqavian Brown, Julia Francis, & Nyzia Newman. As well as a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and other surrogate family members.
