Luis Guerrero Martin M.D.'s Obituary
Dr. Luis G. Martin, 81, a longtime resident of Ellicott City, Maryland, Endocrinologist, Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical School, and father of five passed away after a battle with cancer on September 13, 2011. He died peacefully at his daughter’s home in Riva, Maryland surrounded by his family.
Dr. Martin was born in Madrid, Spain in 1930 and came to the United States in 1958 to further advance his medical training. He joined the University of Maryland Medical School System in 1965, and was a teacher, researcher and clinical practitioner in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology for over 30 years.
Dr. Martin and his beloved wife, Constance Lucille (deceased) are survived by four children: Eugene David Guerrero-Martin (and Dr. Peggy Guerrero-Martin), a NASA Engineer residing in Baltimore, MD; Luis Anthony Guerrero-Martin (and Joan Guerrero-Martin), a Baltimore County Police Detective residing in Catonsville, MD; Dr. Francis Joseph Guerrero-Martin, a Physical Therapist and Mechanical Engineer residing in Ellicott City, MD; and Dr. Maria Martin Lane (and Mike Lane), a Physical Therapist residing in Riva, MD. He is also survived by his seven dear grandchildren: Selena, Jenna, Joseph, Olivia, Daniel, Krista and Kayla and in Spain by nieces Conchita, Mª Eugenia and Maria Angeles and nephew Paco Pepe and their families. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Selena Maria Guerrero-Martin.
Dr. Martin was a brilliant, hardworking man and dedicated husband, father and physician who will forever be remembered for his deep intellect in medicine, philosophy, world history, politics, geography, art, and classical music. His wisdom, integrity, elegance, charm, quick-witted humor, and generosity were only exceeded by his love of his family. He always had the perfect proverb for everything. He was extremely thoughtful and cared greatly for everyone he knew. He had a sneeze that would shake your spine, and a laugh with feet stomping that would make you laugh to tears. He was often affectionately called "Pop" by family and friends. Dr. Luis Guerrero Martin was truly extraordinary. His life was a body of excellence and class. We were blessed to have him in our lives as long as we did, and he will be greatly missed.
A private service and burial will take place at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, MD. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be scheduled in a few weeks.
