I met Larry at the start of his residency at Stony Brook. I had recently started as a nurse there. We became friends and gym partners sharing a number of adventures over those years. We worked our way up our respective career ladders. He became an attending physician and I became an assistant director. Life took us on different paths after we left Stony Brook but we maintained our friendship over the years. He was a lifelong friend, providing sagely advice. He was an outstanding physician and researcher, chose to move from academia to practice, impacting the lives of many through the care delivered directly and applying his administrative skill at number of organizations.
While I could share many stories of our experiences as friends, his sense of humor and devotion to his family, friends and patients were unmatched. His passing is huge loss to many, but the wisdom, humor and passion will live on with all who knew him.
