Larry Leo Morrissey's Obituary
Larry Leo Morrissey, aged 85, passed away on October 16, 2023 after a short illness.
He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 6, 1937, to Lawrence and Lillian Morrissey. He was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Nebraska Omaha and was a lifelong fan of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team. He was a member of ROTC both in high school and college. To earn his way through college he worked with his father at the Union Pacific Railroad and as a mail carrier at Christmas time.
Upon graduating college, he was commissioned and became a pilot in the United States Air Force, traveling the world flying C-124 Globemasters. Following his service, he settled in Savannah, Georgia and served as an executive in the commercial shipping industry.
An inveterate Jazz lover, he was a noted presence on the radio in Savannah, organized the first Savannah Jazz Festival and was active in planning arts festivals and other civic events.
In his later years, he moved to Annapolis, Maryland to live with family. Following a major heart attack he was a resident of the Annapolitan Assisted Living community where he continued to share his love of music with his fellow residents. His family is grateful for the wonderful care he received there.
He is survived by his brother, Leonard Morrissey and his wife and two daughters, his son, Rafe, and daughter-in-law, his daughter, Laura, and son-in-law and 11 grandchildren.
