I've known Jack for close to 40 years, but it was only in the last couple that we became close friends. We met for breakfast weekly at Grumps, where he loved the "twos", but not as much as The Seldom Scene. And certainly not as much as dogs- any dog, but especially Gumbo. We shared an enthusiasm for a certain type of literature, and often exchanged recommendations for books to read. He was a kind and gentle soul, and his passing leaves a hole in my life.
Jack and I met in May of 1959 when we both worked at the Flanders Hotel in Ocean city, New Jersey. We were busboys and immediately hit it off as good friends. This friendship never ended through all these many years.
