I will forever be indebted to John as a friend and professional colleague. We first met in the late sixties, when he was a post doc at Johns Hopkins and I was an undergraduate student. He taught me FORTRAN programing and we did laboratory experiments together. Later, he hired me to work at NRL, where he was my boss for 14 years. Under him, I learned to ask critical questions in research and to publish scientific results in journals. We shared a mutual interest in Corvettes, and never had a shortage of topic to discuss whenever we talked over the years. I shall miss him greatly and forever cherish the formative role he played in my life as a beginning scientist. My sincere condolences to his wife Barb and their family.
