Irene L. Ammann's Obituary
Irene “Vicki” Louise Ammann, resident of Camp Springs, MD, passed away May 14, 2025 surrounded by family. She was 83.
Vicki was born August 15, 1941 in San Diego, CA, the first-born child to her loving parents, Air Force Lt. Col. Coyd V. Wakeman and Sylvia L. Wakeman.
As a child of a US Air Force fighter pilot, Vicki and her family lived in various locations across the map including China and Morocco.
Fun fact, at the age of 17, while the family was stationed in Nouasseur, Morocco, Vicki entered a beauty contest for the daughters of officers residing on Morocco AFB. She represented the 4310th Air Division and with her beauty and grace, she was crowned “Queen Miss Nouasseur of 1958”.
Following the Morocco detail, the family was deployed to Savannah, GA where they were stationed for a number of years. The southern food and hospitality were some of Vicki’s fondest memories and stayed with her long after being transferred to Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs. Vicki resided there until her passing.
Anyone who knew Vicki knew her love and compassion for animals. Throughout her lifetime she rescued, rehabilitated, comforted and nurtured many dogs, cats and other wildlife, including a baby fawn named Faline that she raised and loved dearly. Often without hesitation, her home became their forever home. She truly cared for all of God’s creatures.
Vicki loved plants, flowers, gardening and adventures in the great outdoors. She enjoyed camping, amusement park trips, and loved scuba diving in Florida’s fresh water springs, snorkeling with Manatee or just observing the wonders of Mother Nature’s beauty in a park with family and friends. She would share her wisdom and a few of life’s lessons in unforgettable conversations while making special memories with whomever she was with along the way.
Vicki is predeceased by her parents Air Force Lt. Col. Coyd V. Wakeman and Sylvia L. Wakeman, her son, Robert V. Ammann and daughter, Baby Ammann.
She is survived by her daughter, Staci Ammann (Jeff), son, Eric Ammann (Tanya), her brother Gregory Wakeman (Maria), sisters Christine Vincent (Richard) and Cheryl Wakeman, grandchildren Skylar, Tori, Robert and Kyle Ammann, her nephews, great nephews and nieces and many loving and caring friends.
A picnic celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 13th at Quiet Waters Park, Annapolis, MD 21403 from 1:00-5:00pm.
Upon arrival let the attendant know you are with the “Celebrating Vicki” event and they will direct you to the pavilion location.
