Glenda G. Brooks' Obituary
Arnold resident, Glenda Gail Brooks (nee Smith), passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on November 26, 2023, after a long battle with illness.
Glenda was born October 16, 1955 at Presnell Hospital in Kennett, Missouri. She was the fourth of eight children born to Ulysses Smith and Gladys Grissom and the youngest daughter. She grew up in the farming community of Southeast Missouri and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1973. Following graduation, she enlisted in the United States Navy.
She completed Basic Training in Orlando, Florida before eventually moving to Annapolis, Maryland. In doing so, her life’s journey moved permanently from Missouri to Maryland. While enlisted, she served on the clerical staff of the Chaplain at the Naval Base in Annapolis. Following her enlisted term, Glenda continued to work for the Navy as a Supply Purchasing Supervisor. She eventually retired from the Navy after more than 35 years of service between her enlistment and civilian roles. Following retirement, she remained the in the community and worked for Sam’s Club in Annapolis.
In Annapolis, her only child, Melissa MacNeill Booth was born in January 1976. She survives Glenda, and lives in Denton, Maryland with her spouse, David Booth and Glenda’s two grandchildren, Madison Sinclair MacNeill and Lachlan Graeme MacNeill. Glenda subsequently relocated to Arnold, Maryland where she shared a home with Larry Wayne Hart, who survives her. Together, Larry and Glenda embarked on an enduring and loving relationship which lasted the next 37 years. In doing so, Glenda acquired additional family in the persons of Larry’s children, Jason Thomas Hart, of Pasadena, Maryland and Lisa Marie Zittinger, her spouse Michael and Larry’s grandson, Zachary, of Baltimore, Maryland. Together, Glenda, Larry, their respective children and grandchildren shared their lives, loves, successes and struggles for the rest of her life.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Morrow and Fern Smith; and a brother, Donnie Ray Smith. She is survived by four siblings, Shirley Bradshaw (Stephen), James Smith (Tammy), Charles Smith (Melinda) and Scott Smith (Jennifer) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland, 21401 at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023.
