George Leonard Simons' Obituary
Loving husband of Ruth Simons, father of Debra Simons Dove (Dave) and Susan Karlheim (David), stepfather to Doug Hall (Lori) and Sheri Haslam (Kevin), brother to Faye Clark and devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Deanna, Morgan, Max, Alyssa, Jake, Moni, and Mari peacefully entered Heaven on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
George was a native of Washington D.C. where he attended McKinley Tech and was known by his high school friends as “Sonny”. He served in the Army from 1946 – 1948 in the occupational troops in Germany and played in the 421st band before relocating to Maryland.
George was well known in the metropolitan area as a trumpet player and leader of his own band for fifty years. He enjoyed singing at South Shore Baptist Church, bowling, the Redskins, music, and spending time with family and friends.
He will long be remembered for his charisma, musical talents, and his sense of humor. More importantly, he will be remembered for his unyielding faith and for the loving marriage example he set with his wife Ruth for their children and grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis MD 21401 from 10:30 am until the start of the funeral service at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Shore Baptist Church, 725 Herald Harbor Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
