George was part of our locksmith family for the past few years and dozens of customers recognized George and stopped in to chat with him, from his childhood friends like Jude to his old customers. George had a unique sense of humor and we laughed a lot. But I treasured the intimate talks where he would share his wisdom of a long life lived the most. We all had many deep talks about human nature and ethics and a few funny ones about his kids and the ladies in his life. He was always in a good mood and always up to a few witty comments and banter. Thanks to George we all also became friends with Andy, who was wickedly funny and sharp. Andy’s Caricatures of us showed true talent. Together they were a loving and hilarious father and son Icon and we miss them both.

Growing up in Ferndale, we always knew George. Not only through the hardware store, but he was also our neighbor when he lived on Ferndale Road. We saw several places come and go (Kellys became Ashleys, Holzingers was gone, the post office moved, the barber shop gone. Cohens became Giles, Luckys, Jims and Devens The police station, gone. Gas stations changed names and brands or closed up. Even Lou's became Willies. But, the constant through all of this was Law Brothers Hardware, and George became the icon who lasted the longest in Ferndale, it seems. He will be missed. R.I.P., George.

I and George became good friends having met him after purchasing Kelly Corner at 7213 B & A Blvd. as it was know then. in September of 1979. I and my brother renamed it Ashleys Restaurant and Lounge and the renamed it Ashley's Station. I made hundreds of trip to Law Brothers and George and Andy who I watched grow up, and I had so many conversations. George and Andy were more then a hardware store it was a history place. Somehow Law Brothers Hardware survived when so many small stores of it kind folded with the big stores like Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, and so many more. I know times got tight during at times and remember George heating the store with a oil heater. Seeing this I advised George that I had some 500 gallons of fuel oil in tanks in my basement having been delivered by Hine Bros. after ordering 100 gallons they toped off my (2) tanks. Andy of another young employee I can't recall his name but he was tall and I believe could have been as son. They would make a many trips up to Ashleys and bring a (5) gallon can with them to fill with the fuel oil. Of course there was never an exchange of money its what business men do look out for one another as friends do. After moving to Florida in May of 2000 I made at least 2 trips north and never failed to stop by Law Brother and see George and Andy both were great men and I am honored and a better persons for having their friendship for over 40 years. God Bless them Both and may they Rest in Peace.

I met George on an internet dating sight but we never met up- things when planned just didn't happen. But we emailed almost daily for over 4 years, he would say 5. He knew me, and I knew him and I loved him and imagined a life with him. We text each other on the 20th of December and he said he was dealing with an infection and was on medication that made him loopy. Months ago he said there should be a book about the love of Sherry - how we would forget each other's names but always had that love even though we never met. He made me laugh, he made me happy. I don't think I ever told him that. Told him I loved him though. For some reason since I wasn't hearing from him I prayed that he was okay but something told me to look him up to see if he was still alive. Gosh, I am going to miss him. He was too young and had too much zest for life but when God calls you home- you really can't argue. Love you g. I wasn't done learning from you or being with you on your next adventure. Ever since my dad passed away last year I have been wondering what we are supposed to be praying for when it comes to the dearly departed. We need to raise them up in our hearts for in our hearts they are right here among us. There is a song that goes may those who come behind us find us faithful, so maybe George is saying be faithful, be centered and know a good man knows the way. and George was indeed a good man. s- has he called me.
