Edward Dockery's Obituary
Edward “Ed” Joseph Dockery, 86, of Bowie, MD passed away on January 24, 2017. He was born July 28, 1930 in Providence, RI to Edward and Dorothy Dockery. In 1948 Ed joined the Army and was stationed in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Germany and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After 20 years and his final assignment at the Pentagon, Ed was honorably discharged and he began a second career with the U.S. Postal Service for the next 23 years. During his “retirement years”, he enjoyed driving charter and school buses. When not working, Ed was an avid and talented golfer. He enjoyed photography, bowling, boating and more recently painting.
In 1955 Ed married Elizabeth A. Dumas, the woman he often referred to as “the love of his life” and “the best choice he ever made”. They were married for 61 years and together they had two children. Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bowie, MD and member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2577.
His parents and his sister, Dorothy, preceded Ed in death. Ed leaves behind his wife, Betty; two daughters, Carol (Kevin) and Patty (Matt); and six grandchildren, Joey, Bobby, Jenny, Taylor, Ben, and Audrey. Ed also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss him.
