David Gene Stahr's Obituary
David Gene Stahr, 65, died peacefully at home on May 15, 2016 after a long illness. David was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 14, 1950 to Bill and Roberta Stahr and was raised in New Lebanon, Ohio. He met the love of his life, Linda Longhini, while they were both undergraduates at Miami University, and they were married in the university chapel shortly after graduation.
After relocating to Maryland, David enjoyed a long career as a special education teacher in Prince George’s County, including many years teaching at Laurel High School. David was passionate about baseball and, although he became an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, he continued to follow the Cincinnati Reds and hoped that someday Pete Rose would make it into the Baseball Hall of Fame. David loved music, ranging from blues to classical, and attended Sunday matinee concerts of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as long as his illness would permit. Other interests included sailing, U.S. history, pirates, and reading, especially Anne Rice and Patrick O’Brian novels.
David’s family meant everything to him. His daughters Amanda and Maggie were the center of his world. Amanda’s fiancé Bryan became the son he never had. In addition to his wife and children, David is survived by his beloved sister Susan Thompson and her partner Deb Fausnacht, nieces Robin Reidy and Erin Thompson and their families, mother- and father-in-law Fran and Tony Longhini, sister-in-law Cheryl Longhini, brothers-in-law Charlie Chinn, Andy Longhini, David Longhini, Paul Longhini, and Jim Longhini, and their families. David’s parents, stepmother Helen Stahr, and sister Dedra Chinn predeceased him.
