Dear Linda and Family: I have such fond memories of David. A couple come to mind:

I remember vividly the first time Linda and David came to dinner at my house. I was really nervous, (even though it was my house :-)). I just wanted everything to go well. David was just so engaging and he had a great way of poking fun at me with a gentle sense of humor, that I stopped worrying about dinner and just relaxed. In fact, I was so relaxed that I even agreed to play my piano for you both - something I rarely do.

I remember all of us spending more than one occasion at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. I remember David loving the history of it all, in addition to the sometimes wacky costumes. On one of our trips to the Festival, Linda and I agreed to be pilloried (apologies to the women's movement). David got a big kick out of that. How he managed to escape the pillory, I don't understand to this day! He was definitely one of the good ones, and the world is not quite as bright for want of his presence.

Our deepest sympathies go out to your family. We will miss Dave very much. We enjoyed the many years we raced against him when he sailed on Stingray. A lasting memory will be looking over at him in the heat of battle with our two sailboats and seeing him smiling, enjoying every moment of being out on the water. He was just as much fun at the parties afterward! We will miss Dave as a neighbor as well, always supporting good causes in Pines on the Severn.

Where to begin? There are so many great memories of David, baseball games at Memorial stadium, opening day 1979 was so cold and windy we bought hot chocolate and put our freezing fingers into the cups to keep warm, Jim Palmer on the mound and the O's won. Sailing on the Severn, David taught me all I know abought sailing. David and Linda's excellent choices of books for my birthday's, treating me to a hockey game for another birthday, the Caps won. Some of my favorite memories were the small ones, dinners at the Stahr's, playing board games at the dining room table, watching ballgames with the sound off while we listened to music (David would say, "Irwin, pick something to play", and then he would say, "great choice"! It has been more than forty-two years since I met David and Linda, two of the best friends I have ever had, I will miss him with all my heart, but will remember all the wonderful moments we spent together. A truer friend one could not wish for.
