Brenda Abney's Obituary
Brenda Evelyn (Offer) Abney went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2013 after an extended illness. She was born in Washington DC on August 8, 1938 to the late Leon and Evelyn Offer. A lifetime resident of Annapolis, Brenda completed her public school education at Bates High School as a member of the graduating class of 1956. She also attended and graduated from Fleet Business School in Annapolis in the 1960’s and briefly worked on a Master’s Degree at Lincoln University in 1988. Brenda started on a career path which led her to the position of Director of the Senior Services for Anne Arundel County with the Anne Arundel County Community Action Agency, Inc. She spent 28 years with this agency, retiring in 2002.
Brenda was a faithful member of Holy Temple Cathedral for many years. She served as a Trustee with the church, a Deaconess and a member of the church Choir.
She leaves to mourn two brothers, Leon Offer Jr. of North Carolina and Larry Offer of Annapolis; one daughter, Tanya Diggs (Jeffrey Sr.) of Annapolis, three sons, Reid Abney of Prince George’s County, Quinole Abney Sr. and Carlos Abney both of Annapolis.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four daughter in-laws; seven sister in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including her best friend, Bishop Edna Palmer of Annapolis. Brenda also had another son, Calvin Abney, and two additional brothers, Ralph Offer and Calvin Offer, who preceded her in death.
Brenda’s Home-going service will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Holy Temple Cathedral, 708 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. The wake will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis.
