Ann Jeannette Makell's Obituary
Remembering Ann “Jeanette” Makell
Ann Jeanette Makell was born February 20, 1936, in Galesville, Maryland. She was the beloved daughter of the late Dorothy C. Sellman, Joseph L. Makell, and the step-daughter of the late George E. Sellman. On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the age of 77, Ann Jeanette peacefully entered into God’s realm of eternal rest joining her parents; her daughter, Odessa Sanders; her brothers, James H. Makell and Douglas A. Sellman; and her step-sister, Doris C. Cauley.
Ann Jeanette was educated in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. As a young woman, she was employed with the Woodfield Fish & Oyster Company. Ann Jeanette later ventured in becoming a Day Care Provider for many children.
Ann Jeanette joined, Ebenezer A.M.E. Church at an early age. This is where she joyfully praised God through songs by singing with all of the choirs and oftentimes singing solos . Whenever the Gospel Stars Gospel Group would sing, you could hear her strong alto voice graciously singing His praises.
Always faithful to family, Ann Jeanette answered the call to help raise her siblings and their children. With a caring spirit and an open heart, she used her skills to become a child care provider, not only to her family, but to her community and surrounding area as well.
This was her life -- a pure reflection of her trust, belief, and love for God. She gave Him her all and all. She continued to faithfully praise God for His Goodness and for His Grace through her circumstance. She never lost focus that “His yoke is easy and His burden is light” -- the words from one of her favorite Gospel song she often sang. She strived to seek a better way of life, not only for herself, but for her family, as well. Her life was about serving God through worship and singing and nurturing those that she loved and cared for both spiritually and physically. Her spiritual growth continued as she allowed Christ to use her as one of His “vessels.” She was not ashamed of His Gospel nor was she afraid to let her light continuously shine. She was a living testimony on how God uses us to bless and comfort each other though song.
Her hobbies and favorite pastimes included singing, listening to gospel music, reading, watching her favorite soaps, cheering for her favorite football team, cooking (pastries and crab cakes), and taking those annual vacation trips with her family.
Ann Jeanette leaves to cherish her loving memories: son, Garry A. Jones (Joyce) of Shady Side, MD and, daughter, Kim T. Sanders (James Williams) of Ft. Washington, MD; four grandchildren Kimberly N, Moulden, Monique T. Stevens, Garry Antwon Jones, and Delvin R. Williams; three great-grand children, De’Zhane Allen, Deyana Thomas, and Gabrielle Jones; one brother, Wellington L. Makell; two sisters Margie O. Teachey and Jacqueline S. Douglas; her most devoted cousins, Damon and Davonne Ross; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ann Jeanette was ill for several years and bore her illness with a smile, patience and understanding. With this same understanding we will find comfort in knowing that:
Down a road both calm and peaceful
Guided by God’s loving hand,
She has gone upon a journey
To a brighter, happy land.
And although our hearts are heavy
With the sorrow we must bear,
It will always bring us comfort
Knowing she is happy there.
