William Frank Savage, Jr.'s Obituary
William (Bill) Frank Savage, Jr., 67, of Frederick, MD, passed away from heart surgery complications on February 28, 2019. Born in Olney, MD, November 13, 1951 to Louise Franklin and William Savage, Sr. Survived by his mother Louise Franklin; wife Brenda Savage; children William Savage III, Eunice Talbert, Hilaire Lessard, Malissa Savage; stepchildren Scott Smith and Ryan Smith; grandchildren Masen Savage, Olivia Savage, Ashley Talbert, Courtney Talbert, Chloe Doiron, Cora Doiron, Livia Lessard, Liam Savage; Charleigh Smith, and Bennett Smith; siblings Mary Teixeira, Kenny Savage, Laurie Evans, Eddie Savage, James Franklin, Sandy Chambliss, Richard Franklin. Bill will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends.
Preceded by his father William Savage, Sr.; brothers David Savage & Howard Savage; nephew Robert Evans III.
Bill was a renowned umpire with Greater Washington Softball Umpires Association and Maryland DC Amateur Softball Association. He had an impressive 40 year career as an umpire, over 7,100 games, including Regional and State tournaments and ASA National Championship tournaments. Bill also spent many of years donating his game fees to the International Association of Firefighters’ MDA Slow Pitch Tournament to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He held various positions on the GWSUA Board of Directors for 15 years. He was a member of ASA National Indicator Fraternity and ASA Gold Medal recipient. Bill’s proudest accomplishment was being inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 2017.
During the off-season of softball, Bill spent many of years satisfying his passion of snow storms. Bill thoroughly enjoyed plowing snow as a private contractor with his brothers and friends. In 2015 he joined BF Joy as a CDL driver.
When Bill wasn’t on the ball field or plowing snow, he was the life of the party. He enjoyed the simple life by the river, fishing, riding jet skis, telling jokes, playing games and cards with family and friends. Bill had no mercy when playing games, always determined to be the winner. Aside from the game table, Bill was very compassionate with a big heart. He will be deeply missed by all.
