After his family golf was foremost in his life, being on the golf course every moment he could with his golfing cousins and friends all over Maryland and surrounding states. He was known to those who knew him as Sweet Swinging Bill. He wasn't a man of many topics but when it came to golf his passion for the sport kept this topic number one conversation piece in talking to Billy. Just ask anyone who knew him, if the word golf was mentioned in his presence you couldn't get him to stop talking.
His professional work career started at Plastic Plant in Odenton, Maryland. From there he went to work for several hardwood floor companys where he developed his second passion. He and deceased friend Sylvester Johnson were two of the best hardwood floor layers in the area. His third passion was doing hair, yes Mr Billy was a hair stylist as he put it a cosmetologist. He was known for giving everyone from his household, relatives and friends the famous Jerry Curl.
He started his pilgrimage with Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church as a young boy. He attended service every Sunday with his mother a devoted Christian. As an early teen he sang on the choir. Right up until his life ended you still could find cousin Billy and Aun t Thelma every Sunday at service.
Billy was a strong and independent man, and he really displayed these two characteristics after suffering a stroke in March of 2002 which left him disabled and a loss of the use of his left upper and lower limbs. This didn't limit his ability to drive, cut grass, be the fix it man for his immediate family and play with his grand children.
Billy as his mother called him was a devoted son the heart beat and the gleam of Thelma's eye. He was the best Daddy and Poppop and his children, grandchildren and great - grandchildren will miss him dearly.
