Uncle Bill was always there for me. Starting with the passing of his older brother, my father Lewis Durr in 1996, Uncle Bill did everything in his power to take over the father figure role. He was a great listener and logical communicator. The passing of Uncle Bill for me meant the last direct connection to my father’s side of the family. I will miss him in all aspects. Currently, I know that he is joining his parents, brother and my son Christopher. I will continue to cherish great memories I had with him, and I look forward to someday see him in Heaven. God Bless you and thank you for showing me the way.

We have so many fond memories of Bill from our trips and times together. He piloted a barge on a canal in France where we had delightful adventures and one scary one where he pulled Pat back onto the barge after she fell into the canal. We had such wonderful conversations where he was curious and interested in so many things, and he could make a mean Gimlet for New Years. He was special, and we remember him with love and affection.

My 1st memory of Bill is from Thanksgiving 1990 when I learned he had the wonDURRful ability to laugh at himself. His nephew Geoff had superimposed Bill's image on a then popular “engine killer” advertisement after an engine succumbed to improper maintenance. His laughter was as loud and hearty as everyone else's.

He was a great straight man with deadpan delivery such as the time he narrated Carol's dance to “White Boots”. And he once played a great gay man as he and Uncle Glenn cuddled behind a newspaper with its colorful gay pride headline.

But my fondest memories are of him and Carol as consummate 4th of July hosts on Hammock Island. Rock balancing, racing boats made out of bread, limerick writing, boat rides and so much more. Delicious food and gimlets. Much laughter. Just time enjoying each other's company.
