William Edward Bender's Obituary
William “Bill” Bender, 88, passed away peacefully on November 5th in Severna Park, MD, in the company of his wife Mickey. He was born in Harrisburg, PA, to William and Margaret Bender and raised in Mount Lebanon, PA. He was the middle child with an older sister Mary Louise and younger brother Stephen.
He graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 where he met Mildred (aka Mickey) during his freshman year and served in the Army ROTC.
Bill and Mickey were married in 1959, and they raised a family and lived in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the suburbs of Philadelphia, and a few towns in Central New Jersey during Mickey’s tenure as a United Methodist Pastor. He got into the ground floor of computers in the 1960s and made a prosperous career of it working in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, and Maryland. He even started his own computer consulting company, Bender Computer, Inc. Upon retirement, Bill and Mickey lived and played in Ocean City, NJ, in the warmer months and resided in Fort Myers, FL, in the winter months until 2021. They have spent their remaining years in Severna Park, MD, with family close by.
Bill loved to ride the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ, photograph birds and the beach, eat ice cream, sticky buns, watch Phillies games with Mickey, and spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mickey, his four children (Kathyrn, Elizabeth, Margaret and John), 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and his older sister, Mary Louise, and younger brother, Stephen.
