Virginia Marie Daywalt's Obituary
Virginia Marie Matiz Daywalt departed peacefully on May 12, 2016 . Born Sept. 28, 1941 to the late Cristobal and Polita Matiz, she lived most of her life in Annapolis, MD and more recently resided in Ridgely, MD. She attended St. Mary's School and enjoyed a 30 year career as a civilian employee of the U.S. Government. Mrs. Daywalt worked first at Ft. Meade and then at the U.S. Naval Academy in the Personal Property Division. She retired in Sept. 2001 on her 60th birthday. In her healthier days she enjoyed nature watching with her husband, doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family. Her children and grandchildren will always remember the standing Sunday Dinners where she and Dad would cook and all who showed up would enjoy! She was particularly known for her Fried Chicken, potato salad, and Spanish rice. She also enjoyed gatherings that included her siblings and extended family where there was always dancing and joyful celebration.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Daywalt is pre-deceased by sisters Isabel "Pete" Colon, Miriam Neff, brother Michael Matiz, brothers-in-law James Seeders and Jerry Conway, and nephews Roy Neff and Michael J. Matiz, She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert "Jerry" Daywalt, sons Robert "Bobby" Daywalt and Tommy Daywalt of Ridgely, Charles (Lisa)of Stevensville, daughters Judy McCartney (Joe)of Henderson, MD, Angela Durner of Stevensville, and Dawn Davis of Delmar, DE. Also survived by grandchildren, Brian McCartney (Kristen),Megan Cole (Tim), Michael McCartney (Michelle), John McCartney, Brittany Daywalt, Justin, Jordan, and Jeremy Durner, Jessica Sterling (Sarah), Andrew Davis, and Shane Daywalt; great-grandchildren, Tyler Davis, Brayden and Isaac Cole, Nathan Eslin, Brenden and Nathan Mayoral, Landon McCartney and Hudson Sterling .Her surviving brothers and sisters are Cristobal Matiz (Isabel)Judi Matiz Conway, JoAnne Seeders, Ramon Matiz, Nina Kover (Don), Mary Matiz, Gloria Newman (Rick), Pilar Jones (Mark), Jerry Matiz Newman, sisters-in-law Janet Sanders, JoAnn Kinsey, and Patricia Marcheskie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Wife, mother, sister, friend....she was many things to many people and will be remembered for her witty sense of humor and ever-enduring love for her family. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.
