Vincent Robert Pereira's Obituary
Vincent Robert Pereira, 93, passed away on August 23,
2016 at the Heartland House. Vincent, fondly known as "Chi Chi" had lived
with his son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Donna, since 2014.
Born in Taunton, MA on February 7, 1923, he was the loving and devoted
husband for 69 years of and predeceased by Alice F. Pereira, sister of the
late Heavyweight Champion of the World, Rocky Marciano. He was the youngest
son of the late Manuel and Maria (Silva) Pereira. Also predeceased by his
brother, Manuel Pereira, and his sister, Mary Portugal.
He was the beloved father of Vincent "Bob" Pereira and his wife, Donna, and
the cherished grandfather (Popop) of Lora Pereira. Also survived by many
loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vincent was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving proudly in World War II as a
heavy artillery gun crewman in the 411th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, and
participated in the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.
He retired as a Bridge Foreman from the State Highway Administration after
30 years of service.
Vincent and the love of his life, Alice, lived most of their lives in
Brockton. In their later years, they lived in So. Easton. They wintered at
their home in Jensen Beach, FL for 22 years and spent many happy times on
Cape Cod in their younger years. They loved traveling and vacationed in
Italy, Portugal and Hawaii. They also went on many wonderful trips with
Bob, Donna and Lora. Chi Chi loved card games and had many fond memories of
dancing until dawn at Roseland and the Canoe Club.
He loved life, treasured his family and friends, and made this world a
warmer and happier place as he passed through. He will be greatly missed by
all who knew him.
A private memorial service will be held with interment at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Vincent to the Compass
Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Dr, Centreville MD 21617.
