Tulicia Victoria Johnson's Obituary
TULICIA VICTORIA TUBAYA JOHNSON, lovingly known as "Tee", peacefully departed this life to rest with God early morning on Monday, January 7, 2019. She was born October 23, 1951 in Annapolis, Maryland to Gertrude Chambers Tubaya and the late Herberto Tubaya, Sr.
She received her education in the Anne Arundel County public school system and was a proud member of the Annapolis High School Class of 1969. Tulicia came from a long line of educators and after graduating from Bowie State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, she went on to earn her Masters in Education and in 1999 was certified by the Maryland State Department of Education as an advanced professional in grades 1- 6 and middle school.
Tulicia began her teaching career at Georgetown East Elementary and for over 30 years taught in schools across Anne Arundel County. As a retiree she continued to serve as a substitute teacher wherever needed; often teaching the children of some of her early students.
Tulicia was a baptized believer and had a special love for the word of God. As a life-long, faithful member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, Tulicia held many leadership positions and sang on both the Gospel and Mass choirs. Her early religious training began under the loving guidance of her grandfather, Reverend John T. Chambers Sr. and provided the foundation for her strong faith that allowed her to be victorious in her sickness.
Tee loved people and had a caring and compassionate heart. A devoted missionary, she visited the sick and stayed in touch with those in need. Soon after her retirement, she became one of the caregivers for family friend and fellow educator, Mrs. Gwendolyn Pindell. Her many interests included gardening, puzzles, reading, shopping at flea markets and spending time with her family. Growing up with 15 cousins, Tee was number four and affectionately labeled " The Jokester."
Wonderful, loving and fond memories of a life well lived will be cherished by her children - daughter, Tamara Sevasti and son, Travis Warner Johnson; her only grandchild, Starr Alexis; loving sisters, Denise Tubaya and Terraceta Tubaya-Joyner; her husband David; and brother, Alonzo Tubaya. She will be reunited with her brothers, the late Ronaldo Tubaya, Sr., Herberto Tubaya, Jr., and Kory Murray, Sr. Her memory will also be treasured by aunts, Helen Chambers and Yvonne Tubaya; uncles Frederico and Francisco Tubaya; god children, Lawrence, Courtney and Brittney Williams; former husband, Warner Otis Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
You heard a voice we could not hear, which said you could not stay,
You saw a hand we could not see, which beckoned you away
Gone is the smile we’ll see no more, gone to rest on the heavenly shore
Gone from this earth of toil and pain, gone on high, her reward to gain.
Lovingly,
The Family
