Thomas W. Lehman's Obituary
Thomas Lehman of Harwood, Maryland passed away peacefully on December 3 at Anne Arundel Medical center. He had endured a long battle with COPD and other ailments.
Tom was born on March 1st, 1937, the only child of William and Eleanor (Hankey) Lehman. He was raised in Pittsburgh amid a large family of uncles, aunts, and cousins. After graduation from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was part of the Pitt Marching Band, he moved to Maryland to begin a teaching career that spanned thirty-five years. During that time he was also an enthusiastic dog obedience instructor with the Canine Training Association.
He married his wife Janet in 1980. They and their son Brendan Keith enjoyed many years of love and laughter. They shared their home with the midshipmen that they sponsored from the United States Naval Academy.
After his retirement from Prince George’s County Public Schools as an English teacher at Bowie High School, he became active as a travel agent and a responder and dispatcher for the American Red Cross. He and Janet continued their travel adventures via camping, tours, cruises, and time share exchanges. They shared their home with a succession of furry friends, most recently four Cardigan Welsh Corgis. In recent years they became a part of the warm and supportive community of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Crownsville, where they enjoyed fellowship and many activities.
Tom enjoyed all kinds of music from marches to Mozart. He was interested in history, and all travel adventures including visits to historic sites. His favorite books and television programs revolved around mysteries and police dramas. He was a good conversationalist and enjoyed visits with family and friends. He leaves behind years of good memories.
