Tom Brady and Jack Colyar
Tom Brady was my best friend. I will miss him dearly. Tom and I met at LaSalle College in the early 1950s. Our friendship has lasted over 65 years. Over those decades we shared our lives and families with each other. Our bond was based on growing up in Philadelphia, being WW II veterans, working for the government, and having large loving families. Tom and I shared good times and not so good times.
Tom and Nada were always a part of the larger Colyar family special occasions. Tom loved his family and I enjoyed meeting them. Tom and I always kept in contact with each other even through the busy years of raising our families. We enjoyed the company of each other, cruised together, -had a drink or two together, attended LaSalle basketball games and college reunions together, and grew old together. I will miss Tom and felt his passing deeply.
Tom and I had a unique friendship. We could communicate to each other with few words and still understand each other. I believe we grew gracefully old together.
As we reached our 90s, being only 3 weeks apart in our age, Tom kept his intelligence, quick wit, and love of living. My thoughts were with Tom on my 92nd Birthday celebration as he too would be celebrating his birthday soon.
My kids discussed “how similar” Tom and I were in our personalities and actions. They enjoyed Tom and Nada’s company and their openness. Just like me, my entire Colyar family loved Tom. We share in the Brady family’s grief of losing Tom.
I am happy to have had Tom Brady as my best friend and sharing our lives together.
