Suzanne Denise Cervera's Obituary
Suzanne D. “Niquette” Cervera of Annapolis passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022 with her children by her side. She was 92 years old.
In recent years, dementia had robbed her of many of the activities she loved most. She always had a sense of adventure and a zest for learning. She loved to explore new places. Her love of animals and nature were a passion. Walks on the beach were done as often as possible and she always kept a beautiful home with a houseful of plants and a colorful yard. She loved her family most of all, cooking and entertaining for them left many happy memories to her survivors.
Niquette was born on October 26, 1930 in Paris, France to Carlos E. Marciales and Jeanne Deillas. Her family moved to Colombia, where she was raised and educated along with her three brothers, Pierre, Carlos and Roberto. In 1953 Niquette married Hernando V. Cervera and grew their family with a son, Hernando and a daughter, Maria Claudia. In 1965 the Cerveras moved to the United States, settling in the Washington DC area. Many years later, Hernando Sr. retired and Niquette got her wish to move to southern Florida where they enjoyed many years with family and friends close by and warm weather. Niquette worked in many different occupations throughout her life, from retail to insurance and accounting in higher education. She retired from Florida Atlantic University in 1998. Her beloved husband pre- deceased her in 1997.
She is survived by her son, Hernando Cervera of Bowie, her daughter, Maria C. O’Shea of Annapolis, her only remaining brother, Carlos D. Marciales and his wife Eleonora Amaris of North Lauderdale, FL. Her grandsons, Ross E. O’Shea and wife Holly E. Parker and Kyle D. O’Shea (Darien R. Sawicki) and many nieces and nephews that were cherished and remembered in all the photos that she took throughout the years. These past few years, Niquette was blessed with Caregivers Jennifer and Efren, who were relied on every day and so admired for their loving care.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date in Florida when her remains will be placed at Boca Raton Mausoleum alongside her husband.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to your local animal shelter SPCA or the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org).
