Susan Phillippi's Obituary
Susan Mary Phillippi, 68, of Crofton, MD, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in East Cleveland, OH on July 3, 1947 and was raised in Massillon, OH by her adoptive parents Harold and Mary Schrader. She attended St. Joseph School and graduated from Central Catholic High School.
Mrs. Phillippi is survived by her husband, Elmer Joseph Phillippi, Jr., a son, Nathan Audie Phillippi of Houston, TX, her brothers John Schrader and Michael Schrader of North Canton, OH, and three grandsons.
She was an avid reader and amassed an outstanding personal library, featuring notable volumes on history, archeology, science and fiction, among others. She was also a dedicated gardener and an artist specializing in oil painting, particularly involving animals and flowers as subjects.
Mrs. Phillippi was a poet and produced several volumes of poems, some of which were published. She was a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets. She was an advocate for wildlife preservation and was a sustaining member of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a future time and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122, or online at chesapeakelifecenter.org.
