Susan F. Meals' Obituary
Susan Fish Meals, 78, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland after a long-term illness.
Born on January 10, 1947, in Belfast, Maine, to Mona and Leon Fish. Susan attended Belfast High School and the University of Maine. She married Charles Meals in 1966 and after a short time living in Laurel Maryland, they moved to England in 1969 with his job at the Dept. of Defense. They were fortunate to travel extensively throughout Europe while living in Cheltenham but most importantly their first child Lauri was born there. After returning to the U.S. in 1973, Susan began her career as a Legal Secretary working for several law firms in the Annapolis/Severna Park area. They also expanded their family once again and welcomed their second child Michael in 1974.
In 1985, they moved again to Newport, Rhode Island where Susan continued her career as a paralegal and enjoyed being closer to her extended family in Maine. In the late 90’s, she and Charlie once again took an assignment in Oahu, Hawaii where he spent 4 years serving as the representative to the Pacific Command. While in Hawaii, Susan and Charlie traveled extensively again throughout Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Susan dedicated much of her time hosting guests from home as well as Senior officials from throughout the Asia/Pacific region.
After retirement, they bought a second home on Swan Lake just outside of Belfast, Maine and spent summers just across from her parents’ family cottage. She thoroughly enjoyed time there gardening and occasionally relaxing but always keeping her beach pristine and spotless. Above all, her most treasured moments were spending precious time with her beloved family especially her three grandchildren while they visited Maine as well as in Maryland where she was a loving supporter at every school function, performance, and sporting event.
Susan is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles; children, Lauri (James), Michael (Megan), three beloved grandchildren (Carter, Lizzie, Brooke), and two sisters (Carolyn and Donna). She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on June 2nd 2025. Visitation will take place at 2:00 p.m. followed by a service at 3:00 p.m. at Lasting Tributes in Annapolis, Maryland. Burial services will be private.
The family requests any donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a cause that Susan held dear to her heart.
