Stan and I shared a unique sense of humor and along with Lee, created many fun times when the three of us were together.
I shared some of Stan's hobbies. He loved to dirt bike "off road" and I joined his "Chickens" group many times with Mike Medinger, Paul and his buddies. We'd ride hard through the jeep trails at Loch Raven reservoir or find a quarry pit in Severna Park. Stan and I went skiing up north a number of times and as always... traded jokes the whole time. He made me laugh and I made him laugh. The "Bobby D" ski trip was a fable to us after years went by.
One of my favorite Birthday shows was at Stans for the "Cuba Cubs" presentation. He was at all of them.
I pulled Stan into volleyball with others in his circle and we had a great group of creative people playing at Mike's place up Jarrettsville pike every Thursday night. We even played indoors at the Merritt Club downtown in winter. It got intense for me (not good)... but not for Stan who always had it in the right perspective. Stan and Dave Simpson asked me to rep them early on... and I was grateful for the offer but wanted to be in front of the camera, which I did for decades.
Stan was in my wedding, with Lee. Always smiling, always with a quick response which we traded back and forth. Nothing in my life was more special than spending time with a friend like Stan who made everything fun and funny.... we shared that.. everything went through a "laugh" filter.
Stan was sneaky low key, always with a smile... but had quick observations about everything and everybody. I got to speak with Stan several times in the last couple months... he was aware of the serious potential of what he was going through and wanted to focus simply beating it.... with his Mary. I don't think of Stan without thinking of Mary. They were so good together and Mary by his side to the end, which is all Stan wanted at that point.
Great memories and happy times are his legacy with me... I smile with each memory and always will.
