Spencer H. Gulick 's Obituary
Spencer H. Gulick of Annapolis, Maryland died at home June 5, 2012 of a short illness.
He was born on October 28, 1920 in Long Branch, New Jersey to the late Charles S. and Mabel D. Gulick.
He spent three years at Columbia University in New York City where he was a member of the varsity rowing crew.
Spencer served as a bomber pilot in World War II, flying A-20’s. After his plane went down over North Africa, he was captured by the Germans. He spent two years as a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft a German prison camp. The camp was liberated by General George Patton’s army in 1945. Spencer received the Purple Heart and Air Metal.
He was an avid sailor, cyclist and later a kayaker.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ of Annapolis where he sang many years in the choir and served briefly on the Board of Trustess.
He is survived by his wife Sally Gulick of 32 years, five children, C. Spencer, Peter W., Stephen K., Kristie M., Barbara E., two step children, Dr. Katherine Amundson, Martin J. Amundson, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers, William D. Gulick and Charles F. Gulick of Florida. He was preceded in death by his former wife Elizabeth S. Gulick of 31 years.
A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday June 24, 2012 at the United Church of Christ of Annapolis at 10:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ of Annapolis.
