Sonja Elizabeth Eades' Obituary
Sonja Elizabeth Eades, age 73 went from labor to reward on Friday July 11, 2014. She was born on March 31, 1941 in “Camp Parole” to the late John and Rosetta Pindell. Sonja was well loved and known by many, and affectionately called Betty. Betty resided in Easton, MD with her daughter and her two grandsons.
Sonja graduated from Wiley H. Bates, Class of 1959. She completed the certified business program at the Fleet Business School. Sonja retired from the State of Maryland after 19 years of service; she then retired from Anne Arundel County Government in 2004.
She cherished spending time with her children and family. She loved reading, writing, murder mysteries, crossword puzzles, eating crabs and chocolate chip cookies; her favorite color was red. She was also the family historian and proof reader.
Betty truly loved The Lord, she was a true prayer warrior, she served The Lord with gladness, a woman of strong faith even during her illness, Betty would glorify God through prayer, praise and worship, the word of God was a lamp unto her feet and nothing pleased her more than serving and depending on God.
Betty served as a volunteer with Annapolis High School, the Law Library, and the Diabetes Center at UMSMC. Betty was formally a member of Fowler United Methodist where she held several offices and positions. She was a member of Calvert Fellowship, and attended The Bridge Church (formally known as Church at the Mall) and Saint Marks United Methodist Church in Easton, MD.
Betty believed in service to others, either formal or informal. Betty was a member and held the positions of Past President and Secretary of The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association of Annapolis, along with numerous other service oriented positions. Betty was also a member of the Red Hat Society. In her lifetime, Betty received numerous awards, recognitions and citations for her services.
She leaves fond memories to be cherished by her children; Shawn (Carolyn), Chantee’, Sedonna, Joseph II, and Roderrick who proceeded her in death in 1989. Sonja was formally married to Joseph K. Eades. She had thirteen grandchildren who warmly called her “Granny”; Keyonna, Keisha, Kellie, Shaneika (whom she raised), Renae, Jourdain, Alexis, C. Michael II, Kayla, Carrington, Jameria, Isabella, and Tanijah; great grandchildren: Takari Johnson and Ryin Johnson, who preceded her in death; and grandson-in-law Ryan Johnson.
She is also survived by her sisters and brother, Catherine (Glen), John Jr. (Betty), Eleanor, and Gaylee. Nieces and nephews: Delta (Vincent), Belinda, Deidre (Les), Troy (Susan), Larine (Stanley), Yarmice, Damien, Jason (Danyell), J. Wesley, Shelley, Crystal, Maurice, Monique, and Demetria (Perry); Former sons and daughters-in-laws, Michelle, Harold, C. Michael, and Vicke; Sisters-in-law, Gloria Hill and Beatrice Johnson, brother-in-law Jesse Smith (Denise), godchildren Pastor Devorick and Lynette Little, god-brother Reverend Charles Sembly, Uncle Allen Pindell (Joanne), numerous adopted daughter nurses at Anne Arundel Medical Center, and a host of family and friends.
Among her many friends, who are too numerous to mention, Betty held a special place in her heart for Judy Howard (considered her best friend), Patricia Hunt, Hazel Coates, Lou Parker, Kathleen Cook, Sandy Nowak, Elizabeth Ramirez, and Eva Reeley.
Betty also adored her pets; Maaco and Jazzie.
