Siegrid Barnett's Obituary
Siegrid Barnett died on Friday, June 29, 2012 at her son's home in Riva, MD. She was 77.
Siegrid Barnett was born Siegrid Wetzig in Braunsbach Germany in 1934 to the late Eugene Wetzig, a professional baker, and Helena Thaidigsmann Wetzig, a homemaker. She was raised in Wiesbaden, Germany and in 1956 met her future husband, Edgar Barnett, in Mainz, Germany - a nearby town. Edgar and Siegrid were married in Wiesbaden in 1957. After getting married they moved to the Great Lakes Naval station in Chicago, Illinois where they welcomed their son Daniel into their family. After leaving the Navy, they moved to Evansville, Indiana and welcomed two more sons, Gary and John David, in the coming years. After her husband took a position with the U.S. Government, the family moved to Washington D.C. Shortly thereafter, Edar took ill, and in May of 1981, her husband of 24 years died of a brain tumor. Siegrid then had to raise her children on her own. After some time living on her own she contracted breast cancer and chose to reside with her oldest son Danny.
Siegrid Barnett is survived by her son’s Danny, Gary (Pamela) and J. David Barnett (Cheryl); five grandchildren, Julia Ann Barnett, Sinamin Ann Hornquist, John David Barnett Jr, Jeremiah Franklin Barnett, and Andrew Michael Barnett ; one great grandchild Jordan Hornquist; and brothers and sisters Klaus Wetzig, Dore Weygand, Manfred Wetzig. She is predeceased by her sister Renate Diez.
Funeral services will be held at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, P.A. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10:30am. A one hour prior visitation will begin at 9:30am. Burial will be at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery immediately following funeral services.
