Sherman Lathorn Butler's Obituary
Sherman Butler started and lived his earlier life in Camden County, GA. He was the seventh child of nine born to Henry Butler, Sr and Louise Reed Butler on November 29, 1952. At an early age Sherman joined the Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Tarboro, Georgia. Sherman attended the public schools in Camden County. Sherman moved to Trenton, New Jersey shortly after graduating from Camden County High School in 1971. While in New Jersey Sherman worked at Union Camp before joining the U.S. Army in 1973. Sherman's first unit was the 2nd of the 28th Field Artillery unit in Ansbach, West Germany where he served from 1973 to 1978. In 1978, Sherman was relocated to Fort Knox, Kentucky where he met his future wife. In 1979, Sherman was united in marriage to Kim Williams formerly of Piscataway, New Jersey. They were relocated a number of times during his career to Nuremberg, West Germany (3 yrs); Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland (5 yrs); Seoul, South Korea (2 yrs); Fort Knox, Kentucky (3 yrs); Frankfurt, Germany (2 yrs) and his last duty station of Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 1995, Sherman retired from the U.S. Army. While on active duty Sherman continued his education getting an Associate in Arts degree from the University of Maryland and later getting a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisville. Sherman worked at UPS in Louisville, Kentucky after his retirement from the army and later at a Circuit City Distribution Center in Marion, Illinois as part of their management team before moving to Annapolis, Maryland. Upon moving to Annapolis, Sherman started working for The Department of Veterans Affair. Sherman retired from Civil Service after working as a Training Manager for The Department of Veterans Affair.
In his free time, Sherman loved watching and attending professional wrestling matches and he was an advent lover of classic western movies and shows like “Gun Smoke.”
Over the years, Sherman learned to love and appreciate his fur babies that gave him
years of unconditional love.
Sherman leaves to cherish his life, his wife of 45 years and their son David. He is survived by his brothers and sisters in law: Henry (Sonny) Butler Jr., Sister in Law – Hessie Butler, David Lee Butler, Sister in Law - Pearl Butler, ErvIn Butler, Sister in Law – Carol Butler, Eddie Butler, Ricky Butler, Sister in Law – Tracie Butler, Sister in Law – Julia Butler. A host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Sherman was preceded by his siblings Gloria D. Robertson, Lonnie Butler, and Lucius Butler.
Sherman is also survived by his cherish fur babies Nook the black cat and
Chanel his gray cat.
