Seth R. Lopatkiewicz's Obituary
Seth Roland Lopatkiewicz, 48, passed away October 28, 2022, at his home in Ft. Ashby, West Virginia. His family and friends knew him as a patriot who served his country first in the Armed Forces and then later as a federal corrections officer. He was also a proud father of two and a lover of music.
Born in Cheverly, Maryland, he spent his early years in Capitol Heights, MD, before his family moved to Annapolis, MD, where he established many life-long friendships. A 1992 graduate of Broadneck High School, Seth played football and became one of the top high school wrestlers in the state. He went on to serve in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Upon leaving the military, he began his correction officer career in Culpeper, VA, before transferring to the federal system in Cumberland, MD. He continually earned recognition for high performance, moved up in rank to a Senior Corrections Officer, and was known to his colleagues as ‘Pack-man.’
Seth was an extremely energetic individual who brought life and humor into any room he entered. He was passionate about his family and friends, especially his two children, Emily and Ethan Lopatkiewicz. Seth loved all things water including fishing, crabbing, and boating. When an opportunity to play a game of chess would surface, he would confidently claim he was “the one to beat.” He was an avid music lover and could name any song along with its related artist within seconds of hearing the first few notes. A sports enthusiast throughout his life, he had no problem debating his love for the Washington Redskins (Commanders) football team.
He leaves behind his mother and step-father Barbara and Charles Smith, his father and step-mother Karol and Eileen Lopatkiewicz, sisters Tasha Hanegraaf (Stewart) and Jennifer N. Jones (Van), and younger brother Charles N. Smith III (Ruth). Additional immediate family members include uncles Stefan Lopatkiewicz (Michael Reilly), Ted Lopatkiewicz (Drucella Andersen), and aunt Viki Lopatkiewicz (Claire Bedat), along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and beloved friends.
Seth’s family is grateful to all who have been so kind and thoughtful during this difficult time. Words cannot express our deepest gratitude for all your prayers, acts of kindness, and sympathy. God’s richest blessings to each of you.
