So sad to hear of Scott's passing.
I was 22yrs old when I first met Swaff. I was a Brit intel guy attached to a US intel unit. Swaff was one of the first people I met there and one who on my first tour there worked with closely and we quickly became great friends at RAF Molesworth. I think it's fair to say that he had a healthy level of cynicism about 'power' and 'rank', which fits just right in with the British mentality and we just hit it off. We had a lot of good times, especially in 1994 when we (England) didn't make it into the world cup finals but the US team did and he'd put on parties for the when the matches were on TV and make margaritas for about 20 of us all sat in front of the only large TV in the communal area of barracks.
I later worked with him again a year or so later for another 8 months and thankfully he was just the same. It doesn't surprise me he later became a lawyer - he was always the first one to stand up to power in his unique sardonic way and was always reading and studying every bit of reading material he could get his hands on - no matter the subject.
Mind you, I didn't only love Swaff, I also loved his car - it had seatbelts that automatically hugged you when you got in and we didn't have anything like that at all in the UK until he imported his sports car here :)
God speed mate, you are very much remembered and I still cherish the gift you organised and signed when I left.
