S John Steines' Obituary
S. John (Jack) Steines, 71, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on the morning of October 17, 2018 following a courageous battle with ALS. John was born on August 5, 1947 in Sherrill, Iowa. He graduated with a B.A. from Loras College in Dubuque, IA, and completed subsequent coursework at North Dakota State University and University of Missouri, in addition to graduating from the St. Louis Police Academy. He earned an M.A. in Business Management from Webster University in St. Louis, M.O. The span of his professional career included service as a policeman in the suburbs of St. Louis, a variety of management positions for large corporations including Vice President of Asset Protections, Vascular Sonographer, and writer. He was particularly proud of professional accomplishments including the co-authoring of critical operations manuals for the corporations with which he was employed.
John was a former member of the Annapolis Chorale. He greatly enjoyed the martial arts, fencing, hiking, singing, traveling, writing fiction, painting, photography, and above all, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family, friends, and dogs.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Meriel Steines. He is survived by two sons - Ian of Harrisonburg, VA (and wife Lena), Patrick of Ramsey, NJ (and wife Liesel), as well as four grandchildren: Julien, Lleyton, Anna, and Alicia. His surviving siblings include brother David, and sisters: Carol, Debbie, Cindy, and their children.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to: Hospice of the Chesapeake or the American Civil Liberties Union.
