Ruth Mitsuko Klanderud Omine's Obituary
Ruth Mitsuko Klanderud (née Omine), age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Arnold, Maryland, on June 20, 2026.
Ruth was born on October 19, 1947, in the village of Ogimi-Nuha on the Ryukyu Island of Okinawa. She immigrated to the United States in 1975 and was proud to become a U.S. citizen during President Reagan’s Presidency. She was married to her beloved husband, Timothy Jack Klanderud, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years, and had a beautiful life centered around her family.
A cancer survivor of over 25 years, she remained a strong and faithful devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruth’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Jack Klanderud; her two sons, Timothy Jay Klanderud and his wife Michiko, and Jonathan Ray Klanderud and his wife Rebecca. She is also survived by her four cherished grandchildren: Atom and Hana (children of Timothy Jay and Michiko), and Noah and Kolten (children of Jonathan and Rebecca). She leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends.
A devout Christian, Ruth found great comfort and joy in her faith. She could often be found reading her English-to-Japanese translated Bible and singing her favorite Christian hymns. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her gentle heart, and her fierce devotion to her family and her Savior. She is now free from the infirmities of the flesh and has entered into her heavenly inheritance in Heaven’s Glory!
A viewing and funeral service will be held at Severna Park Baptist Church, 506 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD on July 2 at 10am, followed by interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery-Crownsville, Maryland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Schizophrenia & Psychosis Action Alliance (https://sczaction.org/donate/).
