Roosevelt Britt III's Obituary
In the early morning of February 22, 2023, Roosevelt Britt III, a loving husband, and father, passed away at his home in Annapolis, MD.
Roosevelt “Rose” Britt III was Born in Suffolk, Virginia at 11:25 am on March 3, 1971. He was the fifth and youngest child of Roosevelt Britt Jr. And Betty Lou Britt.
Rose is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Britt Jr, Betty Lou Britt, and his elder brother, Terrence K. Britt.
As the youngest child, Rose was always treated sweetly and doted on by his older sisters and cousins, who affectionately referred to him as “Rosie.” While growing up in Suffolk, Rose grew his love for music and family, running back and forth between his house and his Aunt Peggy's house, who Rose nicknamed “Aunt Luv.” At an early age, Rose’s mother recognized his love for music when he would sit and listen or dance to records with his older sisters and decided to get piano lessons for little Rosie. From there, his love for the piano and playing instruments grew. He then became classically trained on the piano and played for the local college and high school.
After graduating from John Yeates high school in 1989. Rose, a deep intellect, went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a minor in Theology, from Old Dominion University in 1998.
While attending ODU, Rose quickly became friends with Rudolph Brickhouse and Leo Owens, sharing a passion for philosophy, thought, and reasoning. While there he also met and wooed his affectionate sweetheart Naudra with his genuine knowledge, nurturing disposition, and beautiful piano playing. Rose’s musical talents would eventually secure him a teaching position in Annapolis, Md teaching music and science at a middle school. Before making the move, Rose married his college sweetheart Naudra on September 20, 2000. Soon after, Rose, his wife, and first daughter made the move to Annapolis, Md.
Rose’s care for children led him to many human service jobs over his life such as a director at a Boys N Girls Club and a community specialist at Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Rose eventually landed a fulfilling career teaching children with special needs at The Pathways School in Annapolis, Md.
Rose was an incredibly honest and compassionate person with a strong moral compass. He was also a man of full body, sound mind, and strong integrity. He had quiet confidence, an expressive sense of humor, and an uncanny ability to captivate his audience with his gregarious storytelling and antics. Rose had an extensive knowledge base that allowed people from all levels of society to gravitate toward his warm personality and share a true connection and lasting bond.
Rose was also a man of many talents. He had a genuine love for music and enjoyed listening to all genres. One of his favorite pastimes was producing his own music on his keyboard and sharing it with close family and friends. He also enjoyed quality time watching sports with his youngest son and father-in-law, who Rose affectionately referred to as “Doc.” A true foodie, Rose thoroughly enjoyed cooking his favorite meals for his family, namely his “famous” fried chicken and a noodle dish he got from his brother called “yak.” In his downtime, you could often find Rose reading and studying a variety of books usually about spirituality, and philosophy, listening to roots reggae, or hanging out with his dog “Sarge.”
Rose is survived by his loving parents-in-law, DeShirle (Dee) Rowel and Dr. Randolph Rowel, whom he shared a very loving and special relationship with. Seven aunts, Brenda B. Howard, Peggy B. Reed (affectionately referred to by Rose as Aunt Luv), Denise B. Mizelle, Margaret Spivey, Mary Hurdle, Elizabeth Boone, and Louise Britt, three uncles, Carl E. Britt, George Britt, and Charles D. Boone, three sisters, Avis B. Blow (James), Janet B. Britt, and Rosalind D. Britt, two brothers-in-law, Kenyatta Rowel, James Britt (Avis), four nieces, Tanika B. Dodson (Kevin), Shannon B. Dominguez, Brittany B. Hurtado, and Hillary Rowel. Two nephews, Darren C. Britt, and Kingston Rowel, two great nieces, Brooke L. Dominguez, and Madelyn R. Dominguez, one great nephew, Kevin T. Dodson II, and 1 Godson, Harold L. Simmons IV.
Rose’s legacy will live on through his four children, Elijah Tafari Jones (27), Rachel Danielle Britt (24), Olivia Rose Britt (22), and Roosevelt Emmanuelle-Horace Britt IV (17), and his three special nieces that he stepped up to raise, Sophia K. Rowel (27), Lila Catherine Rowel (23), and Emilia Noelle Rowel (21). Rose is also survived by his beloved wife of 23 years and best friend of 26 years, Naudra Rowel-Britt.
Although Rose was taken too soon, he lived a meaningful life surrounded by people who adored him. Rose was full of love, and light and enjoyed serving others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune of crossing his path.
