Ronald F. Cox's Obituary
Ronald “Ron” Franklin Cox, 65, of Annapolis passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 15, 2023 at his residence. He was born May 31, 1957, in Prince Frederick, MD, to Kenneth Melville Sr. and Betty Ann (Norfolk) Cox. Ron was raised in Upper Marlboro and graduated from Largo High School in 1975. Following high school, he attended the University of Maryland and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1986, Ron went on to obtain his Master’s from Johns Hopkins University in Electrical Engineering. He was employed as a Sr. Radio Frequency Design Engineer at Leidos for 18 years and made a career out of being a Defense and Communications contractor. He was an integral part of developing some of our most valuable technology used today. His love for radio, communications, and engineering began when he was gifted his first transistor radio as a child. Ron became an amateur radio operator (WA3VFX) in his early teens, where he talked to people all over the world for decades to come. Music was also a deep passion for him and he enjoyed singing, playing guitar, and writing. He was also a U.S. National Parks Member, traveling across the United States with his family several times. Most of all, Ron adored his family and loved spending time with them.
The lessons Ron has left behind will live on among those of us who were lucky enough to know and love him. He is forever in our hearts until we meet again.
Ron is preceded in death by both of his parents, Kenneth M. Sr. and Betty A. (Norfolk) Cox, and his brother Brian Leslie Cox.
