Ronald L. Bennett's Obituary
Ronald (Ron) Lee Bennett, 86, of Pasadena MD, departed this life on November 4, 2025. He fought a battle with dementia for over 5 years. Ron was born in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Theodore and Gwendolyn (Sill) Bennett. Ron graduated from Chaney High School in 1958, and received a Liberal Arts degree from Youngstown College. He served stateside in the Marines for two years and was a member of the American Legion, Elks, and the Moose Lodge.
After returning from the Marines and while attending college, Ron started dating his long-time next-door neighbor, Sandra (Sandy) Fero, and they married in 1962 (divorced 1971) and they had four children, Sherry, Lori, Tammy, and Ronald (Ronnie). He moved his young family to Maryland to be employed as a District of Columbia police officer in 1966. Early in his career, 1969, he was shot and had to retire on disability. Ron later married Mildred (Midge) Whittle in 1978 (divorced in 90’s) and they had two children, Bridgette and Nicole. Ron lived in various places in MD and he even built his own home on Apple Mountain in Front Royal, VA. Eventually, Ron moved back to Annapolis to be closer to all of his children.
A man of many talents and skills, Ron kept himself busy during his retirement. He would follow the stock market, and his investments daily, do home repairs or improvements on houses he owned, and was always willing to help his children out on any home projects or other needs. Ron also liked trips and would visit Mexico quite often in his younger years bringing his children back sombreros and clothing. He would also hop in his car and go to Ocean City for a day or a few days. One summer, he took some of his children to Florida for a few weeks and then took the other children out west tent camping for weeks in a small car! He lived life in his own unique way, but his children always knew that he loved them.
As the disease progressed, Ron enjoyed his daily visits and excursions with his children. Each child had their own way of spending time with him, from home cooked meals to eating out (he loved Chick-Fil-A), fishing, putt-putt, movies, puzzles, coloring, park trips, board games (cheating at Jenga with a pen), car shows, legion visits, casinos, and even to a University of Maryland Basketball game. Just like when the children were younger and Ron took them to McDonald’s for ice cream, he still had a massive sweet tooth for all junk food and ice cream, and would often hide snacks in his pockets! Ron also started attending Faith Glen Burnie with his daughter and accepted Jesus.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Judson Bennett and James (Jimmy) Bennett; one daughter, Kathleen (Nicole) Bennett; and one granddaughter, Sabrinna Bennett. He is survived by four daughters, Sherry DiPietro (Jimmy), Lori Marine (Kevin), Tammy Sitar (Bobby), Bridgette Hearne (Mike); one son, Ronnie Bennett (Kelli); grandchildren, Melissa, Thomas (Tommy), Courtney, Baylee, Megan, James (JD), Caitlin, Taylor, Carley, Makayla, and Zack; great-grandchildren, Stella, Luna, Quinnleigh, Jameson, Zora, Mack, and Isla. He is also survived by one brother, Eugene Bennett and other extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 17, from 10:30 to 12:00 at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis with a service beginning at 12 noon. Burial will be private at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compass Hospice 160 Coursevall Dr., Centreville, MD 21617 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
