Roger Alan Nale's Obituary
Roger Alan Nale (80) of Odenton Maryland, passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, on January 16th 2024.
He was born in Washington, DC on December 10th 1943. The Son of Floyd Leonard Nale and Mildred Ruth (Himes) Nale. He attended High Point High School where he was very active in the Band, playing the Trumpet. After High School, He joined the Army where he was a Helicopter Pilot in Vietnam. After Vietnam, Roger was an Instructor Pilot before entering the Army Reserves as a Pilot and going on to the National Guard as a Bandsmen playing the Trumpet and French Horn. He married his wife Karen on April 4th 1970. Together they moved to Iowa, Virgina, and finally settling in Maryland.
Roger spent many years coaching the various sports his son and daughter were involved in. He also spent about a decade volunteering as an Instructor, Marching Coach, Chaperon, and Treasurer of the Arundel High School Band in Odenton while his children were involved in the Music Program and after they Graduated.
Roger Retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in September of 1996 and from the Army in 2003.
When Roger and Karen were dating, every Friday they would go Bowling (Duck Pins) and then continued 10 Pins after they were married. He enjoyed singing Barber Shop while in Iowa and took up Golf, and Pool, after he retired. He loved the Washington Nationals and the Redskins (he never referred to them as the Commanders!). He traveled quite a bit both with the Department of Agriculture and the National Guard. The highlight of his National Guard Travels being when he played with the Band for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of D-Day in France.
Roger is survived by his Wife, Karen, of 53 years; his Son Curtis Nale; his Daughter Andrea Hagen and Son-in-Law Chris Hagen; his Grandson Ryder Alan Hagen; his Brother Bruce Nale and Sister-in-Law Jackie Nale; his Sister-in-Law Patricia (McGonigall) Lawson and Brother-in-Law Michael Lawson; as well as Nieces, a Nephew, Great Nephews and Great Nieces, and a Great Great Niece.
Visitation will be at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, on Friday February 2nd 2024 from 2-4pm. There will be a short Memorial Gathering from 2 - 3:30 followed by a short Prayer and opportunity for anyone wishing to speak. Ending with a Military Honor Guard, Presentation of the Flag, and the Playing of Taps.
