Rodney Earl Frederick's Obituary
Rodney Earl Frederick, 77, of Annapolis, MD, passed away on April 26, 2021 surrounded by his loving family from Acute Respiratory Failure as a result of COVID 19. Rodney was born in Baltimore MD, to parents Earl Joseph Frederick and Sylvia Jean Frederick.
Rodney attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute for High School and later attended University of MD where he graduated as a Professional Engineer. He was the President of PHI KAPPA TAU where he earned the Nick Name “ Poddy Roddy” - a great story he told us followed that!
Rodney was seen by his friends as a dedicated husband, father and public servant. He was a Fellow - Environmental Engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency “EPA” for 40 Years. Rodney was one of the first generation of EPA employees. According to a former colleague “He was a major influence and contributor to the water resources profession”
Rodney enjoyed movie sound tracks, orchestras especially the brass, musicals and all Broadway plays/theater productions. He played cards, did puzzles & played a dice game coined the “Frederick Farkle”. He was a TREKKIE - loved his Star Trek!!
He had many hobbies including boating, crabbing, fishing, hunting, water skiing, soft ball, shooting, archery, camping, going to the race track & going to casinos. He once owned a prize winning race horse. He loved animals too. His collection of pets over the years included: dogs, squirrels, fish, birds, rabbits, snakes, gerbils, chickens & tadpoles that would turn into frogs.
He was president of his local coin club, an aficionado of coffee & wine, member of 12 precinct shooting club, a master sharpshooter, had a brown belt in JUDO and an an avid gamer. He and his wife also went antiquing often to find treasures.
Rodney LOVED spending time with his family and friends. From dinners at home or out at a restaurant, he loved family gatherings especially during the holidays. Birthdays were also always celebrated.
Rodney is survived by: wife, Patricia Perry Frederick, Brother, Gary Frederick & Sister, Libby Gorleski along with his children, Renee Brennan, Dawn Frederick & David Frederick, grandchildren Nicole Brennan, Bobby Brennan, Alyssa Frederick & Connor Frederick.
He will also be missed by his children from other mothers & fathers - Lori Pike, Rick Pike & Rich Christiansen as well as hundreds of other children they fostered over the years as Foster Parents in Anne Arundel County, MD.
We will be having a Celebration of Life for friends and family in memory of my father Rod Frederick on Wednesday May 5th, 2021 from 3-7pm at Cape St. Claire Club House - 1223 River Bay Road, Annapolis, MD 21409
In lieu of flowers and gifts, please donate to your favorite charity in his name or send mom a bottle of red wine. 🍷 Let’s stock her up. Dad used to buy her the wine.
