Robert Morris' Obituary
On December 13, 1934 in Washington D.C. an only son was born to Robert Thomas and Elizabeth Magdalene Morris. They name their son Robert Joseph Morris known to family members as Bobby. Bobby's father was the Vice President/Officer of R. P. Andrews Paper Company and a former US Marine.
At the age of seven, Bobby experienced the sudden death of his father. Although a fatherless boy, he was blessed with a loving household consisting of his devoted mother, grandmother Sara Jones and maiden aunts (Bernadette, Lillian, Emma, and Rita). Schools for Bobby were St. Francis Catholic Academy, Gonzaga College High School (1952) and Catholic University of America. After attending Gonzaga, Bob started an entry position at Sears Roebuck and Company that grew to Credit Manager for the east coast.
Later he was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea for two years as Specialist to the Major and General then four years in active reserves. After active service he returned to his position with Sears Roebuck and Company.
In 1961, Anna Rita Hamby introduced Bob, her boss, to her daughter, Agnes Marie. After five years of a beautiful courtship, Bob proposed to Agnes. 1965 they were married at Agnes' family parish, St Ambrose Catholic Church. Bob being an only child now gained sibling relationships: Shirley and Vincent Cleary, Charles and Sharon Hamby, Robert and Judy Hamby and Patricia and Dennis Meadows. Soon after, Bob and Agnes gave birth to five children: Thomas Joseph of Ridgely Maryland; Ann Marie of New York; Robert Charles of Washington, DC; Edward (Ted) of Crofton Maryland, and Steven of Crofton, Maryland. Their children blessed them with seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Gabriel, Emma, Tommy jr., Austin, Devin, and Braeden.
After fourteen years with Sears Roebuck and Company, Bob became involved with his brother-in-law, Charles Hilyard Hamby Jr, Founder of TicketMaster. In the late 1970s TicketMaster soon took off across the country that required Bob to install the TicketMaster system at the Superbowl in New Orleans. By 1980, Bob became a permanent employee of ticket center/box office at the Capital Centre/MCI Center now known as the Verizon Center. More than 30 years of employment was enjoyed under the leadership of Abe Pollin who participated in various successful charitable fundraisers at Bob's request. Bob was instrumental with a cookbook fundraiser for St. Ambrose involving many celebrities and VIPs. Bob focused his leisure time with stamp and coin collection and was a devoted fan of the NFL Washington's Redskins.
Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Annapolis Maryland housing ten dogs, four parrots, and one dutch rabbit. Bob was known for his gentle kindness, quick wit and handsome attire.
At 81 years of age Bob will receive the Christian Burial Mass at St. Ambrose where he and Agnes received the sacrament of matrimony more than fifty years ago. Mass will be at 11:00 am Monday, April 11th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church 3107 63rd Avenue Cheverly, Maryland. The Rite of Committal will follow the Mass at Lasting Tributes at 814 Bestgate Road in Annapolis, Maryland (410-897-4852).
