Robert O. Jackson's Obituary
Robert Oceola Jackson of Annapolis Maryland departed this life on December 20th, 2019 peaceful at home surrounded by family. He was 83 years of age. Robert affectionally known by family as “Pop” was born on June 2nd, 1936 in Baltimore County, Maryland to the late Merriam Lisbon Jackson, Sr and Anna Elizabeth Cheatham. He grew up in Sparks, Maryland and attended George Washington Carver High School in Towson, Maryland. Robert enjoyed his early life in Sparks and often spoke with fond memories of his youthful adventures on the dairy farm where his family resided.
Robert met Lola Holland in 1954. The two married in 1960 and raised five children together. The family lived for a time in Davidsonville, Maryland before moving to Annapolis.
Robert’s early career involved farm and construction work. In 1958 Robert began what would lead to a 40-year career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Robert held various service and sales positions with the company until his retirement in 1998. That same year Robert began a new endeavor with the State of Maryland Department of Transportation where he performed general maintenance duties for 17 years.
Pop was an avid sports fan and loved his “Birds and Ravens!” He was also a great fan of the WWE and the afternoon judge shows. Pop loved to debate the various political viewpoints as seen in the news these days and share stories of days past…some real history lessons! Pop was always happiest at family gatherings and loved following the activities of all his children.
Robert was a man of deep faith. Prayer is a staple in the Jackson household. Robert attended St Luke’s United Methodist Church in Monkton, Maryland in his youth. He enjoyed many bus trips to various gospel concerts over the years.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lola F. Jackson of Annapolis, three sons Robert E. (Iris) Jackson of Woodbridge, Virginia, Charles H. (Trish) Jackson of Grasonville, Maryland, Gregory O. (Carol) Jackson of Stevensville, Maryland, a daughter Lorrie A. (Gerald) Harrison of Annapolis, four grandsons Aaron O. Johnson, Trey O. Jackson, Trent G. Jackson, and Traiton H. Jackson, Three granddaughters Chevelle D. Brown, Dannette S. Johnson, and Takeia C. Jackson, a son-in-law Dan A. Johnson, a brother Philip C. Williams, a sister Mabel Smith, two brothers-in-law John H. and Rudolph C. Holland, four sisters-in-law Berniece Watkins, Emma Holland, Rebecca Jackson, and Pauline Williams.
Robert was proceeded in death by his daughter Lola Jean Downs Johnson, his mother Anna Elizabeth Jackson, his granddaughter Lashay Tyree Moulden, three brothers Merriam Lisbon Jr (Libo), Calvin, and Charles G. Jackson, two sisters Juanita and Carmelita Sterrett, Father and Mother-in Law Henry and Mazie Holland, 4 brothers-in-law Clarence and Robert Sterrett, Ronald Smith, and Lester Holland, three sisters-in-law Dorothy Rawlings, Edith Parker, and Diane Brown.
Robert is the descendant of 7 great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, 3 great-great-granddaughters,2 great-great-grandsons as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
