Robert John Foley Jr.'s Obituary
Robert (Bob) John Foley, Jr., 72, of Annapolis, Maryland, died January 16, 2017, at La Casa Assisted Living.
Bob was born on December 28, 1944 in Camden, New Jersey to Robert John Foley, Sr. and Marcella Morley Foley.
Bob resided in Gloucester City, New Jersey during his youth. He attended Gloucester City High School graduating in 1964. He was a lifeguard for the Gloucester County pool system and at the shore in Wildwood, New Jersey. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps and did basic training at Camp Lejeune. He served two tours in Vietnam. Bob was also stationed in Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
After being discharged from the military, Bob moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became a Baltimore City police officer. He met Linda there and married on February 14, 1970. In 1973, Bob and family moved to Annapolis, Maryland where he continued his career as a police officer with the Annapolis City Police Department. In 1976, Bob was one of two policeman selected to represent the United States at the annual “Friendship Week” for policemen in Belgium. It was an all expense paid week in Belgium through his membership of the Baltimore Chapter of the International Police Association. He was Annapolis City’s first motorcycle policeman. Bob retired from the Annapolis Police Department in 1985. Bob was President of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement motorcycle group based in Glen Burnie, MD. He enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and completed a cross country tour on Route 50. He also belonged to many fraternal organizations.
Bob collected police patches from every state capital and donated his 50 state collection to the Annapolis Police Department. He also had an extensive mug collection from different colleges. Bob was a devoted Notre Dame fan.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Foley of Annapolis, Maryland, daughter Colleen Dearborn and son-in-law Mike Dearborn, and grandchildren: Caitlyn, Michael, Madison, Chandler, and Catherine Dearborn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert John Foley, Sr., mother, Marcella Foley Terlecki, and brother, Dennis M. Foley.
Arrangements are with Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland, 21401. Viewing will be on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 11:00am to 1:00pm with a service immediately following at 1:00pm. Interment will be at a later date at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
