Robert Angelo D'Angelo's Obituary
IN MEMORY OF ROBERT ANGELO D’ANGELO
Robert D’Angelo, 96, died peacefully on November 29, 2022, surrounded by his son, daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandson, at Arcadia of Chester in Stevensville, Maryland,
Robert was born on May 18, 1926, in Buffalo, New York to Carmelo and Francis D’Angelo. His parents were born in Sicily and immigrated to the United States and raised their children, Mary, Bob, and Letty, in the Little Italy section of Buffalo. The family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1946.
When Bob was in high school he was active in his church and attended a high school with an advanced art program. His lifelong passion for art started in high school and continued in college where he majored in art at U.C.L.A. When he graduated, he began a 40-year career as a junior high school art teacher. He created advanced programs in art, ceramics, and stage crew, and maintained lifelong relationships with students whom he mentored and who pursued careers in the arts.
Bob married Lynn Girolando, his childhood sweetheart when fate brought them back together after both families moved independently to California. They had a fairy tale marriage and love affair for 44 years, ending too soon when Lynn passed away at age 65.
After Lynn’s passing, Bob moved to Maryland to live with his daughter and granddaughters in Davidsonville. “Papa” was adored by his granddaughters and played a central role in their lives. He remarried in 2004 to Joan Leatherman; they shared a love of music and travel and enjoyed eight years of marriage before Joan passed away.
His love of art extended beyond his career. He was a master carpenter, a gifted photographer, and had a passion for gardening. He was an active member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church for twenty years and worked with the youth group on several Habitat for Humanity projects, before moving to Annapolis.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Deborah Laggini; son, David D’Angelo; three grandchildren, Cristina, Elisabetta, and Michael; and five great-grandchildren, Domenico, Guiliana, Noah, Niccolo, and Samaria.
Donations to St. Judes are requested in lieu of flowers.
