Richard G. Miller's Obituary
Richard G. Miller
Richard G. “Dick” Miller, devoted husband and caring father, stoically completed a life well-lived on March 18th while surrounded by his loving family.
Originally from West Hartford CT, Dick earned a Master’s Degree in Forest Genetics from the NY State College of Forestry at Syracuse University.
He went on to dedicate 30 years to the US Forest Service as a geneticist. His occupation took him and his family to Oregon, Wisconsin, and finally to Washington, D.C. They settled in Arnold, MD in 1979, and Dick retired from the Forest Service in 1994.
A serious sailor and avid enthusiast of all things nautical, Dick and his wife Martha enjoyed a life of sailing, cruising, and serving in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Dick served as the District Commodore of the USCGAUX 5th Southern Region in 1992 and 1993, and was the Commodore of the Kent Island Yacht Club in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Jensen Miller, son Carl G. Miller (Gina) of Richmond, VA, daughter Deborah E. Miller Gentile (Glen) of Denver, CO, and his four grandchildren Jeffrey Gentile, Jack Miller, Daniel Gentile, and Eva Miller.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, at the Kent Island Yacht Club, Kent Island, MD. The family requests that donations be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake or a charity of your choice.
